Why do magazines make a good fundraiser?
* No products for the school to handle or store
* No melting or spoilage
* Magazines symbolize a true dollar value
* Can be profitable year after year with renewals
* Can increase literacy in your school and community
Are door-to-door sales required?
No. Simply by asking your student’s families to purchase their subscriptions through your school you will be able to raise hundreds or thousands of dollars. At the same time don’t forget to solicit your local businesses. Car dealerships, quick lube establishments, beauty salons, doctors and dentist
offices are a great place to ask for support. And they may be able to take a tax deduction for their contribution.
Do we have to sell a minimum number of magazines to participate? No. There is no limit on the size of the fundraiser. Many magazine sales programs may have your profits tied to the number of subscriptions you sell. At Scholastic Solutions you will receive 50% profit from the very first sale.
Will reading magazines really help improve my child’s literacy? According to the NEA’s research on literacy, children who read at home have a higher success rate at school. The Educational Testing Service reported that students who do more reading at home are better readers and have higher math scores.
Here are some ways magazine articles can improve literacy:
* Are bite-sized and reader friendly
* Answer questions quickly
* Can be grabbed on the run
* Are current and timely
* Cut across the curriculum
* Give a brief introduction to heavier subjects
* Satisfy special interests
